What are post adoption services and why might you need them?
Great questions! Many children who are adopted from foster care have special needs that continue throughout their youth and into adulthood. Families who have adopted children from foster care know first hand that the act of adoption does not do away with those special needs, yet frequently adoptive families experience a lack of support once the adoption is finalized. The good news is that post adoption support is available to families who have adopted children from foster care and is provided by CK Family Services through a contract with the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS).
Eligible families adopted children from foster care, have maintained their adoption and apply for services while their adopted children are younger than 18 years of age. Since each family is unique and our post adoption services are individualized to meet those unique needs, it is difficult to describe here what they look like in practice; however, you can see a list of the types of services that may be available further down in this post. Tap here and complete/submit this form to contact CK about starting up services. Or if you know of a family in need of these services, share the link! Word of mouth is the best way to get the help to those who need it!
