Foster Parent Annual Training Requirements

CK Foster Families

CK Foster Parents who are licensed to provide foster care services are required to participate in at least 30 hours of training annually.  At least 20 of those hours must be from in person, face-to-face training events.  This means that you can obtain up 10 hours of non-face-to-face training that could potentially count toward meeting your 30 hour requirement.

Please keep in mind that this is a requirement for each parent in a home.  Each parent, not the home, must complete the 30 hours.  The only exception to this is when a parent is licensed during the course of a year and we prorate the first years requirement.  If you have any questions about this, please reach out to your CK Case Manager for clarification.

CK Behavior Management

8 Hours Annually

CK Foster Parents must complete a minimum of 4 hours of behavior management training annually (8 hours if caring for treatment services children).  CK currently only accepts behavior management classes that are pre-approved by CK. Expiration of this training occurs on the date you participated in the training the previous year.  So if you previously took the training on July 1, 2018, you must behavior management training again on or before July 1, 2019, to remain in good standing.

CK Policies & Procedures for Medication Administration

.5 Hours Annually

CK Foster Parents are required to participate in this half-hour (.5 hours) online training annually from the date of your previous participation.  If you previously participated in this class on July 1, 2015 you would need to participate again on or before July 1, 2016 to remain in good standing. Submit your certificate to your CK Case Manager.  Each foster parent must complete their own individual certificate for this training.

Cultural Competency Training

3 Hours Annually

CK Foster Parents are required to participate in a minimum of 3 hours of Cultural Competency Training annually. If you participated in this class previously on July 1, 2015 you must do so again on or before July 1, 2016 to remain in good standing.

CPR & First Aid

Hours Vary Depending on Instructor

CK Foster Parents must participate in CPR & First Aid certification classes every two years from the date of the previous certification.  If you previously took these classes on July 1, 2014, you would need to recertify on or before July 1, 2016, to remain in good standing.  Please note that CK is only able to accept in-person, face-to-face classes that include a written test for this requirement.  Online only CPR & First Aid classes will not be accepted; however, we are able to accept blended courses that combine aspects of in-person training and online training.  Please ensure that the CPR portion includes infant, child, and adult instructions.

*PLEASE NOTE: If you take a CPR/FA course provided through a source that is not held at CK Family Services you need to download the CPR/FA Verification Form from the list of downloadable documents below, take it with you to your training class for the instructor to complete and sign, and return it to CK.  This ensures the documentation we have on file will be acceptable to Residential Child Care Licensing upon inspection.

DFPS Online Psychotropic Medication Training

2 Hours Annually

CK Foster Parents are required to participate in this 2 hour online training annually from the date of previous participation. If you participated in this class previously on July 1, 2015 you must do so again on or before July 1, 2016 to remain in good standing. Tap here to access the training. 2.5 Hours Annually

CK Foster Parent are required to participate in this 2.5 hour online training annually from the date of previous participation. If you participated in this class previously on July 1, 2015 you must do so again on or before July 1, 2016 to remain in good standing. You can access the training by tapping here. Please remember to return your certificate and completed Form 2759 to your CK Case Manager to receive credit for this class. Each Foster Parent must submit their own individual certificate and you must also complete the Acknowledgement Form 2759, which you can download here, and turn in attached to your training certificate.

Recognizing and Reporting Child Sexual Abuse: A Training for Caregivers

1 Hour Annualy

CK Foster Parents are required to participate in this online training annually from the date of previous participation. If you participated in this class previously on July 1, 2015 you must do so again on or before July 1, 2016 to remain in good standing. You can access the training by tapping the button below.

IMPORTANT:  Once you complete the course and pass the quiz, a form will appear asking you for information.  When the form asks for your “Operation’s Legal Name” please enter, “COVENANT KIDS INC”.  When it asks you for “Operation Identifications Number” please enter, “17528892155”.  Please remember to return your certificate to your CK Case Manager to receive credit for this class.

Take the DFPS Recognizing and Reporting Child Sexual Abuse Training

Reporting Suspected Abuse or Neglect of a Child: A Guide for Professionals

1 Hour Annually

DFPS requires that Foster Parents complete this online abuse and neglect recognition and reporting training at licensure and annually thereafter.  Please tap the button below to access the training.  Remember to print the certificate at the end of the training and forward it to your CK Case Manager.

Trauma Informed Care Training

2 Hours Annually

This course is a training course developed by DFPS to provide a greater understanding of trauma informed care and child traumatic stress. The training will explore the effects that trauma can have on child development, behaviors, and functioning, as well as recognize, prevent and cope with compassion fatigue.

Need for Normalcy: Training for Foster Parents

2 Hours Annually

This course is a training course developed by DFPS to provide a greater understanding of the need to ensure an experience of normlacy for children placed in foster care.   This course will help you understand the need for children in your care to have a normal living environment. We call this normalcy.
